When you keep returning to what hurts you

Temptation & Bad Habits

Change usually requires both spiritual dependence and practical escape routes.

BEGIN HERE Read slowly.

You do not have to solve everything today.

THE STRUGGLE

Temptation grows when secrecy, opportunity, and rationalization meet. Scripture calls us to resist, flee, renew the mind, and seek help. Grace is not permission to stay stuck; it is the power to get honest and begin again.

READ THE WORD

God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 · KJV
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 · KJV
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace.
2 Timothy 2:22 · KJV

REFLECT

  1. What usually happens immediately before I fall into this habit?
  2. What access, environment, or secrecy can I change today?

A SIMPLE PRAYER

Lord, make me honest about where I am weak. Show me the escape You provide and give me humility to use it. Replace destructive patterns with what is good. Amen.

ONE NEXT STEP

Remove one source of easy access to the habit and tell one trustworthy person what you are changing.
